Culture • Creativity • Outwardness
Message from the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Ioannis Trepeklis
“The Region of the Ionian Islands has supported and implemented the International Philharmonic Festival as a conscious strategic choice: Because culture is not a complementary policy, but a fundamental developmental pillar, a tool for social cohesion, and a powerful means of international promotion for our region.
The Festival was born as a tribute to the historic musical heritage of the Ionian Islands and, at the same time, as an investment in the future.
The Ionian Islands carry a unique tradition of philharmonic ensembles, which for decades have shaped their cultural identity and produced creators with a global footprint. It is precisely this legacy that we seek to highlight and promote internationally, creating an institution that connects the past with the present and opens paths for future generations.
Our central objective is for the Festival to function as an open platform for participation, education, and access to culture. To inspire young people, encourage music education, foster creativity, and strengthen the sense of collective pride.
The coexistence of philharmonic orchestras from across the Ionian Islands, from Greece, and abroad, confirms the dynamism of this endeavor and its potential to evolve into a point of reference on the European cultural map.
At the same time, the Festival possesses a clear developmental and touristic dimension. In a period where cultural tourism is growing rapidly, the Ionian Islands acquire yet another strong reason for international promotion, increasing visitor numbers and extending the tourist season in terms of sustainability and quality.
I call upon residents and visitors to embrace this institution, to participate in a high-level cultural event, and to become part of a collective effort that aspires to grow year by year.
The fact that the International Philharmonic Festival is now established as an annual institution marks our steadfast commitment to investing in culture, youth, and the outward-looking orientation of the Ionian Islands.
Culture is power; it is a source of life and perspective. With this conviction, we continue, transforming our musical heritage into a bridge of creativity, cooperation, and development for the present and the future of our land.”

Designing an International Festival – Creative Director Thanos Georgoulas
My vision for the Festival is to establish a clear international character and evolve it into a major cultural event that highlights the culture of the Ionian Islands and the unique tradition of Philharmonic Orchestras. Simultaneously, it aspires to contribute to the enhancement of the tourism product, establishing Corfu and the Ionian Islands as a destination of significant cultural interest.
The institution aims to showcase our rich musical culture within a modern and high-level artistic framework, combining philharmonic music with theatrical, dance, and other contemporary artistic performances, creating a comprehensive experience for the audience.
The goal is for the Festival to evolve every year, presenting original ideas, high-aesthetic productions, and even more dynamic artistic events.

In this context, the internationally recognized concept of a “Mega Tattoo” is adopted, featuring choreographed philharmonic presentations, demanding musical works, specialized lighting, sound, and parallel artistic activities.
The invitation is extended to all Philharmonic Orchestras so that, through collaboration, a unique event with international impact can be created, placing special emphasis on the participation of young people and their opportunity to gain significant, modern artistic experiences.
